Sweet Pete’s Bicycle Shop
Sweet Pete’s is cycle shop located on Bloor West and provides the community with road, mountain, fixies and hybrid options.

Sweet Pete’s wants you on the road more often
After a brief interview with Owen at Sweet Pete’s it rang loud and clear that the shop’s overarching goal is to get more people (especially women) riding bikes on a daily basis. Owen, one of the partners, firmly believes that cycling shouldn’t be a sport where you feel the pressure to “keep up with the Jones”, it should be accessible and enjoyable for all.
When it comes to cycling, Sweet Pete’s is a shop that provides riders affordable and moderately priced options for road, mountain, and commuting. The shop has seen an increase in women cyclists, and finds that most women that come into Sweet Pete’s looking for a bike, end up leaving with a comfy commuter hybrid bike. Owen thinks that women riders who start with daily commutes on a hybrid bike is a great thing. Daily commutes build confidence and with time many women will consider a more advanced road bike in the future.
Women’s Cycling Apparel and Gear
When it comes to women’s apparel, Owen tells us that his biggest selling item is their Sugoi cycling shorts (regular and bib). The shop doesn’t focus much energy on jerseys because he finds most of his clientele prefer to wear “comfortable” dry fit t-shirts that are less revealing than the standard cycling jersey. As for shoes, Sweet Pete’s carries women’s Shimano, SIDI, Bontrager road and mountain cycling shoes.
Owen tells us that the 3 most popular selling bikes for women are Trek, Giant, and Kona. Yet, like mentioned above they’ll be able to fit you with road, mountain or hybrid and at a price tag that won’t break the bank.
Beyond the shop
Overall Sweet Pete’s is an active supporter in the Toronto cycling community, sponsoring many events over the summer time. Pete, the owner, is president of the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada and like other major shops in Toronto, Sweet Pete has their own racing team (road and mountain). The team is made up of both female and male riders for both road and mountain. Owen says their star rider is a woman mountain biker, Kristen Lake who is ripping up the mountain scene this summer. F-yeah!
