Curbside Cycle

Starting out 15 years ago, literally on the curbside as a tent where old/used/and abused bikes were transformed into commuter friendly “hybrid” bikes, Curbside Cycle has grown into a bike shop dedicated to making the city commute comfortable for all.
Europeans do it best
“There are lots of cyclists out there on the roads who are commuting on bikes that are not meant for city commuting…”, Erik from Curbside Cycle tells me. Commute on whatever type of bike you wish, but Curbside Cycle prefers to commute as Europeans have been for centuries, in style and comfort.

Curbside tells me that European bikes from Batavus, Koga Miyata, Pashley , Abici etc. are built for commuting and are better than other “beater” bikes for many reasons.
Here’s a couple of key reasons…
1. Most of them can withstand the harsh Canadian climate and have little need for repairs because of their internal breaks and components. Meaning you spend less money in the long run (no need for annual tune-ups) and can store it outside in the winter (but be kind and put it in your garage or at least throw a tarp over it).
2. The style of these bikes is also meant for city riding, as it keeps you sitting upright, so you can see traffic and, more importantly, traffic can see you! Which is essential for commuting in a city like Toronto, where bike lanes are few and far between.
3. The size and weight of the bikes makes them very comfy, sadly no spandex shorts needed here.. Erik says “You can save the spandex for your road bike and 100km /day tour.”
But if these bikes are not what you’re going for, then Curbside has a selection of mountain, road, and touring bikes by Devinci and Marin to fit your need and budget.

Commuting is a lifestyle
Before I left Curbside, I asked Erik “what was up with selling regular clothing and outer apparel?”, since I haven’t seen this at any other bike shops in the past. He simply answered, at Curbside Cycle they want to go beyond being just a bike shop. A bike is for everyone and it encompasses so many things in a person’s life. Curbside Cycle is about the bigger picture and commuting to and from work/the market/school isn’t just an act, it represents a lifestyle. So, why not have these lifestyle products available too?
Women’s Stuff?
Beyond the beautiful European commuter bikes, which I’m now drooling over, Curbside offers a great selection of Basil saddle bags, handle bar bags, and baskets that will match your ride, outfit and lifestyle.
Dragging all your crap around town with you has never been so easy and good looking.
